Pop Tarts: Paris Planning Pregnancy; Christina Aguilera Poses Nude

Written by grasya on 2:23 AM

LOS ANGELES — Post-pokey Paris Hilton is undoubtedly looking better these days, having shed her extensions and sporting panties as she parties.

Now, the heiress-turned-music-maker is ready to enter the next phase of her not-so "Simple Life" and have a baby — at least within the next two years.

"Seeing Nicole [Richie] just makes me want to be a mom," she told Pop Tarts at Tuesday night's "Share the Passion" party celebrating the one-year anniversary of Nissan Live Sets on Yahoo! Music.

"I’m like, 'Oh, my God, I need a baby now' because I want our kids to be able to play together like we did when we were 2 years old, so not yet but hopefully in the next two years."

Hilton also said that Richie's pregnancy has caused the on-and-off best friends to trot down memory lane.

"I’m so happy. Nicole and I had lunch yesterday and we were looking through all our pictures," Hilton said. "We’re both so excited, and she’s so happy and she looks so beautiful. I just can’t wait to see the baby."

It takes two to make a baby, however, and Hilton is enlisting a little help from the North Pole in her search for a man to do the "Simple" deed.

"On my Christmas wish list this year is just to be with my family and just be happy and find a nice boyfriend," she said.

But Hilton's future mini-mogul had better be ready to hear his/her mama make music and take on the world.

"I just did my Asia tour. I went to Korea and China and Tokyo in the past two weeks. It’s incredible — I’ve never been there before and it was a lot of fun just being out there and doing a lot of business, and I’m going to go back again next year and hopefully a lot more in the future, too," Hilton told us.

"And I just finished a movie called 'Repo! The Genetic Opera!' and I have 12 songs in it, plus I’m working on a new album. Very busy."

So busy, in fact, that the perennial partier didn’t have time to appropriately color coordinate on Monday. Paris was popped prancing through Los Angeles in a sexy blue dress and stockings … but we’re not too sure about those pink panties beneath.

LOS ANGELES -- Jennifer Love Hewitt is engaged to her boyfriend, Scottish actor Ross McCall. Hewitt, star of the CBS drama "Ghost Whisperer," became engaged last week, her publicist, Sarah Fuller, told The Associated Press on Thursday.

Fuller said she had no details on the couple's wedding plans.

The engagement was reported Wednesday on Us Weekly's Web site.

Hewitt, 28, also starred in the TV series "Party of Five" and "Time of Your Life." Her film credits include "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "The Tuxedo."

McCall has appeared in the TV miniseries "Band of Brothers," "CSI:NY" and "Ghost Whisperer."

Pregnant Aguilera Poses for Marie Claire

Written by grasya on 3:36 AM

NEW YORK -- Christina Aguilera flaunts her pregnancy in an upcoming issue of Marie Claire magazine. The 26-year-old singer is shown wearing a cropped jacket, hoop earrings and a ring on the cover of the January issue, on newsstands Dec. 11. Excerpts from the story were released Wednesday.

Aguilera and her husband, Jordan Bratman, were married in 2005.

The singer says she learned she was pregnant while on her recent "Back to Basics" tour.

"We were planning on starting to try after the tour. And so, I had gone off the Pill to prepare my body, because I didn't know how much time it would take. You've heard it takes some time _ except with Power Egg and Super Sperm here," she says. "... I'm like, `Oh my god, can you believe it just happened?'"

Aguilera says she became "paranoid" during the tour.

"There are so many things that could go wrong _ somebody could slip, somebody could fall, I could fall," says Aguilera, who wore a heart monitor during performances. "There was no way ... I was going to jeopardize my baby for my show."

She confirmed her pregnancy earlier this month in the U.K. edition of Glamour magazine.

Aguilera says she kept the baby news quiet for her fans' sake.

"I didn't want to make the audience uncomfortable, like, `Pregnant lady onstage! Is she going to be OK?' But I had to announce it to my band and my dancers, because I wanted to make sure they had my back," she says.

She adds: "Because I hadn't said anything, people thought I was trying to keep it this big, bad secret, and that's not the case at all. I just wasn't commenting. I'm not being like, `Hey everybody, I'm pregnant!' I'm not that girl."

'Idol' winner maintains her wholesomeness

Written by grasya on 3:29 AM

NEW YORK (AP) -- When teen music stars approach the age of consent, they often test the boundaries of what's appropriate by taking on projects with adult content. "American Idol" champ Jordin Sparks took the opposite approach as she sought out material for her CD debut.

Jordin Sparks

Jordin Sparks says she didn't "feel comfortable singing stuff" full of innuendo.

"I wasn't really sure what I wanted to sing about," Sparks said, "but I knew what I didn't want to sing about."

"I wanted to stay away from 'Oh, put your hands all over me'-type thing, because I haven't experienced that yet so the fact that I would sing it would be really dumb -- plus I don't feel comfortable singing stuff like that," Sparks, who turns 18 in December, said with a giggle.

It's that kind of wholesome charm, along with her powerhouse voice and striking good looks, that endeared her to "American Idol" audiences this year, making her the youngest winner in the TV phenomenon's six-season history after defeating semifinalist Blake Lewis. And on her Jive Records self-titled debut, record executives -- and Sparks herself -- wanted to make sure she retained that sweet-as-pie image.

"She's one of the most beautiful people I've ever met on this planet ... You immediately get a sense of who she is and her values," says Jive A&R executive Jeff Fenster, who helped Sparks and her management team select songs for the album.

"You have to make a record that is representative of who the artist is. We tried to keep that in mind from the beginning of the process," he says. "I said to her from the beginning, a big part of my goal was to help her make a record that she was proud of and represented who she is, and I think she felt that way at the end of the day."

To that end, the "Jordin Sparks" CD is decidedly family friendly -- much like the talent competition that launched her career. Thanks to her "American Idol" success, and her age, Sparks' fan base has a large kid contingent, but also includes the parents and grandparents who, along with their children, watched as the Arizona teen went from a potential also-ran to the odds-on favorite to win it all.

Sparks wanted to make sure that she didn't alienate any age group with the material she chose.

"I never really thought of targeting a specific audience. I just want to make music and whoever likes it likes it," says Sparks, speaking via phone a few days prior to the CD's release.

"I do love the little girls who come up to me and they are just so excited, and I like meeting the older women who are like, 'Oh my gosh we love you ...' It's really cool," she says. "I'm kind of just making good music, so hopefully there's sort of a balance there to where adults will like it but it's not so adult that little kids won't be able to listen to it."

It looks as if she has found that balance on "Jordin Sparks," a thoroughly pop CD with a mix of romantic ballads, dance grooves and inspirational anthems. The album's first single, the guitar-infused "Tattoo," got a slow start on radio but has been steadily rising on the Billboard pop chart and is now a top 20 hit.

The CD was crafted with the help of pop's top producers, including Stargate, the team behind Beyonce's ubiquitous "Irreplaceable." But Sparks makes clear that her contribution was more than vocals, including a co-writing credit on one of the CD's 13 tracks.

"I feel very very lucky because I had a lot of say in what the album was like," she says. "There's a lot of stuff on the album I could relate to in some aspect."

That's especially true of one the more personal songs on the album, "God Loves Ugly," about overcoming insecurity about appearance. It may seem like an odd choice for the young beauty, but the song resonated with Sparks, especially after she endured some criticism from an overzealous weight watcher for her full figure after she won the "Idol" crown.

"There are days when I'm like, 'I want to put a bag over my head.' But most days I'm fine and I'm content and I like the way I look and I like my curves," she says. "It was just kind of weird, but I kind of let things roll off my back."

It's that same kind of levelheadedness that Sparks seems to apply to the whirlwind that has become her life since her "Idol" run this year. She credits her close-knit family with keeping her grounded: Sparks (the daughter of former NFL player Phillippi Sparks) always has one of her parents or family members by her side, and relies on their guidance when things start to get unwieldy: "I have my mom or my nana come with me anywhere I go ... It's cool because I have them there if something is thrown at me."

The next few months will be particularly grueling for Sparks as she promotes her new CD. It will also represent the biggest test of her young career: Will she follow the multiplatinum path of "Idol" winners Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, or suffer a Taylor Hicks fate and fade from the pop spotlight?

Even Sparks admits that the whole thing "is a little bit scary." But she thinks her youth has given her an advantage.

"That's the point of this career for me. I'm excited because of my age -- I can grow."

Britney and Paris top Santa's naughty list: poll

Written by grasya on 3:26 AM

NEW YORK (Reuters) - When Britney Spears and Paris Hilton open their stockings on Christmas Day, they shouldn't be surprised to find a lump of coal.

A poll of American children released on Wednesday found that the two high-profile celebrities should top Santa's naughty list.

By contrast Disney star Hannah Montana, played by country singer Billy Ray Cyrus's daughter Miley, was overwhelming deemed the "nicest" celebrity among children aged 2 to 12 while actress Angelina Jolie was the choice for teenagers 13 to 17.

The online survey of 1,107 children was conducted by E-Poll Market Research, which specializes in celebrity and brand research, to gauge children's attitudes about nice, naughty, and the seasonal question of who makes Santa's list.

Spears, whose stint in rehabilitation, panty-less pictures, and custody battle for her children has won headlines globally, was awarded top "naughty" honors with younger and older children.

She was followed on the list by Paris Hilton who spent three weeks in jail this year on a driving violation.

The two women beat out Swiper the Fox from the television show Dora the Explorer, the Grinch from the book "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" and Darth Vader from Star Wars among children 2-12.

For teens, Spears and Hilton topped Lindsay Lohan, who spent 84 minutes behind bars this year for a drunken driving and cocaine-possession conviction, and Beyonce.

When asked what makes someone nice, children mentioned "cleaning up and doing chores," "sharing" and "being honest and polite" as ways to impress Santa.

Disney's newest princess is moving up

Written by grasya on 10:35 PM

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- When Amy Adams was nominated for an Academy Award, she still lived in the run-down apartment she rented when she moved to Los Angeles with movie-star dreams.

Adams

Amy Adams earned an Oscar nomination for "Junebug," and now stars in "Enchanted."

"It was a little bit of a slum," she said. "The carpet in that place hadn't been changed in 16 years."

Fast-forward to today and Adams, 33, is a Hollywood princess -- literally. She plays an animated Disney princess who comes to life in "Enchanted," and her charmed career will see her share the screen with two of her idols: Meryl Streep and Frances McDormand.

Part of what got her this far is luck, Adams said, her still-wet strawberry blond hair tucked under a gray knit cap as she settled in for tea at her favorite diner. But most of her success is due to her unflagging focus -- a quality that's made her an in-demand actress, but at a cost: She's a "kind of boring" person.

"I need hobbies," she said. "I've been so focused on my career up to this point that I just read scripts and I really became a very uninteresting person. ... I'm going to spend some time researching what my true interests are outside of this, because I really do love what I do."

Adams was still a kid when she decided performing would be her profession. She honed her dancing skills and eventually moved to Minnesota, where she worked in musical theater. Something told her she could act, but at first Adams didn't believe it.

"As a dancer, you sort of aren't encouraged to speak," she said. "It took a long time to be brave enough to say I wanted to be an actress."

About three years, actually. Once she said it, she moved to Los Angeles, and within two weeks she'd booked her first job. A few years later, Adams was mixing it up with her idols at Oscar parties and enjoying accolades for her wide-eyed performance in 2005's "Junebug."

Earning an Oscar nomination so early in her career didn't diminish her focus, but it did shift her perspective: "It was like, well, now what?

"Now I can just sort of focus on the journey ... what stories do I want to tell, what characters."

The options have been coming in ample supply. Adams was cast in "Enchanted" before earning the Oscar nomination, but the film heralds a slew of projects. She'll next be seen in the Christmas release "Charlie Wilson's War," starring opposite Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman. After that comes "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day," a film that stars McDormand.

Adams is also set to appear in "Sunshine Cleaning" with Alan Arkin and Emily Blunt, and she just started work on "Doubt," with Hoffman and Streep.

In each of the films, Adams brings the same sunny optimism that caught critics' eyes in "Junebug." She seeks out joyous characters and likes playing women struggling with questions of faith.

Some of that curiosity comes from her Mormon upbringing. But it also mirrors Adams' own quest for balance and fulfillment -- balancing her private, personal life with her public, professional one.

"I like to be uber-focused. I'm not good at the balancing act of working and then life," she said. "I tend to get a little self-absorbed when I'm working."

It was that total immersion into character that made her the right choice for "Enchanted," said producer Barry Josephson.

"Amy is not the kind of actor that comes to the set and asks, 'What should I do?' She comes to set and ... she is that thing," he said. "She has become a character and there is no assumption of other."

Adams was the clear choice for the princess when she read for the part, Josephson said: "She owned the character ... so much so that she showed us some things about (her) that were not on the page."

That comes from Adams' focus, which she has so skillfully applied to her work and now hopes to direct toward her future.

"In an ideal world, I'll just be able to achieve balance," she said. "I don't know if that's possible. We'll see."

Pop Tarts: Oops! Video Shows Britney Running Stop Signs

Written by grasya on 10:30 PM

LOS ANGELES — Pop Tarts is officially warning all Los Angeles drivers to buckle up and install a Britster brace, because it's one scary Britney Spears saga on the road.

The pop princess was purportedly caught on video running three stop signs in a row with her manager and friend Sam Lufti in her new Mercedes while returning from the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.

Brit’s overworked lawyer, Michael Flanagan, seems to be getting tired of his client’s beep-beep blues. Pop Tarts has confirmed that Flanagan wants some “Silent Nights” in his festive season and has requested that her driving without a valid license legal battle be postponed until the new year.

And as for all those “Crazy” reports that our crooner is going to adopt Chinese twins … Pop Tarts has been told that that is as ridiculous as it sounds.

“There is not truth to that at all,” said a Spears rep. “It came from a bored British tabloid. Shame on all publications who were pathetic enough to repeat it. This report is actually funny."

Foxy Brown Released from Solitary Confinement

Written by grasya on 10:29 PM

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Jailed rapper Foxy Brown, who was sentenced to "punitive segregation" after committing three violations at Rikers Island prison, was released this week for good behavior.

Brown, born Inga Marchand, was supposed to do 76 days in the unit but only served 40. She was sentenced to the "punitive segregation" in October after three violations involving physical altercations.

According to reports, Brown, along with four other female inmates at the Rose M. Singer facility, where the Brooklyn MC has been jailed since August 22, were given early release.

"Foxy is out and her spirits never wavered," Brown's manager, Chaz Williams, told Billboard.com. "While in solitary, she continued to answer each and every fan letter. She also told me she wrote some pretty hot songs while there. She's back in the law library and looks forward to ending this chapter in her life."

Brown was sentenced in September to a year in jail for violating her probation after several arrests, including those involving an altercation with two nail salon employees in August 2004 and an assault on a neighbor with a BlackBerry.

Nicole Kidman's 'Compass' Points to Success

Written by grasya on 10:27 PM

"The Golden Compass" is here. After being treated to tantalizing bits and pieces, I’ve seen the whole movie, a sumptuous two-hour adventure that has as much to do with being anti-Christian or Catholic as "Flipper." So much for that.

No, "The Golden Compass" is not "The Lord of the Rings." It can’t be. For one, it has a female protagonist, Lyra, 11, played by Dakota Blue Richards, who nevertheless is serious enough to carry the day when she has to and then get out of the way for big explosions and fight scenes when the boys and men arrive.

But still: The first part of a trilogy based on Philip Pullman’s "His Dark Materials" series is a visual knockout, extremely captivating and a sci-fi feast for everyone 12 and up.

"The Golden Compass" also gives Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, previously trapped in the awful "The Invasion" this year, a chance to redeem themselves nicely. It turns out that they make a good onscreen couple after all, even though they’re really not onscreen together in "Compass."

Kidman, in particular, is back to business, slithering around, having a grand time as Mrs. Coulter, the nominal villain in little Lyra’s bizarre world where everyone has a "daemon" or talking animal by their side that represents their personality.

Lyra’s daemon is a wildcat that can become a lion, while Kidman’s is a sleek, dangerous monkey, and Craig’s is a snow leopard. Yes, the animals all talk and are wise and wily and a lot of fun as they morph from one to another.

Aside from the people and the smaller talking animals, the other main characters in "The Golden Compass" are a large, armored polar bear, Sam Elliott as a cowboy and Simon McBurney as a scheming clergyman who initiates the film by trying to kill Craig’s Lord Asriel, who Lyra thinks is her uncle.

Lyra thwarts the clergyman’s assassination attempt, thereby bringing his wrath. (I think this is where the anti-Christian stuff comes from.) It’s what sets all the characters on their path.

"The Golden Compass" is a fable, and it can only be viewed as such. Like "The Lord of the Rings," it’s about an object everyone wants — in this case, the compass — which has mystical powers and promise of salvation. (The compass actually is a lot more interesting than the ring.)

And while all the performances are spot on, I think the Oscars and other awards entities are going to be more interested in the technical stuff. Visual effects and production design are haunting and magnificent.

Like "The Chronicles of Narnia," "Compass" is meant to entertain and disturb children of all ages. Director Chris Weitz has done just that, although this film is hardly lighthearted. It gets very dark and a little violent, especially during a gladiator-like showdown between the polar bears.

More importantly, "The Golden Compass" is a large-scale thoughtful fantasy, something to get lost in during a holiday film season when there’s a lot more realistic doom and gloom to contemplate.

Melanie Brown Tops Marie Osmond in 'Dancing With the Stars'

Written by grasya on 7:01 AM

LOS ANGELES — Melanie Brown, Marie Osmond and Helio Castroneves mamboed, tangoed and fox trotted through 10 weeks of competition for a chance to claim the "Dancing With the Stars" crown.

But one star is heading home at the top of Tuesday's season finale.

Brown came into the ballroom showdown in first place.

The Spice Girl and her professional partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, earned 55 out of a possible 60 points for their cha-cha and freestyle dances during Monday's competition.

Chmerkovskiy said Brown was "one of my prize students," but he wasn't focused on winning.

"I don't care," he said after the show. "We just want to enjoy each other, and we do."

Race-car driver Castroneves and his partner, Julianne Hough, finished in second place with 54 points.

"I wish we got that one point. But I feel we did it all, all that we could do, and hopefully the fans are behind us," he said after the show. "I still want that mirror ball trophy."

Osmond, a fan favorite who collected 46 points for her two dances with partner Jonathan Roberts, already knows where she'd place the prize.

"I don't keep awards in my house — and I've won some wonderful awards — because my home is for my children," the entertainer said after the show. "If I win this baby, it's going in my living room, with a spotlight, twirling."

She played a rag-doll character for the couple's freestyle dance, which judge Bruno Tonioli said "defies criticism."

"It's like 'Baby Jane' and the 'Bride of Chucky,'" he said. "It's unique."

It was the lowest-scored of the night, with 22 points.

"It's freestyle, and you're supposed to have fun with it, and I know my fan base," Osmond said. "I'm one of the top designers in the world with dolls, so I'm having fun."

Judges' scores are combined with viewer votes to determine each couple's standing. After the third-place pair is eliminated Tuesday, the remaining duos will perform one last dance — their favorite of the season. The judges have the final say.

The ABC show averaged around 20 million weekly viewers for each of its twice-weekly episodes in the 2006-07 season, eclipsed only by FOX powerhouse "American Idol." "Dancing" is still on its toes, with nearly 22 million viewers making it last week's No. 1 show.

The season began with a dozen dancers. Model-actress Josie Maran was the first to be eliminated. Other nixed contestants were actresses Sabrina Bryan, Jennie Garth and Jane Seymour; entrepreneur Mark Cuban; entertainer Wayne Newton; boxer Floyd Mayweather; actor Cameron Mathison; and model Albert Reed.

Spears And Federline Both Under Investigation For Child Abuse?

Written by grasya on 7:00 PM

Troubled pop star Britney Spears and her ex-husband Kevin Federline are both under investigation by the Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services (dcfs), according to reports.

The former couple are due back in court on Monday to continue child custody negotiations, and according to website TMZ.com, the Dcfs will appeal to Commissioner Scott Gordon to open the files regarding the care of their young boys, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

The department's concerns are said to be "frivolous", but the Dcfs have a legal obligation to investigate any such claims.

This is not the first time Spears has been investigated for child abuse by the Dcfs - her former bodyguard Tony Barretto made an official complaint against the star in October), just one month after she was cleared of similar allegations from an anonymous tip-off.

Spice Girls concert e-mail 'fake'

Written by grasya on 6:43 PM

The Spice Girls have denied cancelling a concert in Argentina, after a story appeared on several websites claiming they had.

A spokesman said an e-mail sent to fans claiming they had scrapped the Buenos Aires concert due to high demand for their other dates was "fake".

The Spice Girls are due to play in the South American city as part of their reunion world tour.

They hope to schedule the gig for a date in February, the spokesman added.

Dates in Cape Town, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Sydney are also still to be finalised, according to the band's website.

'Unofficial'

In a statement, the Spice Girls' spokesman said: "The Spice Girls would like to make it clear that they have not cancelled their Buenos Aires show.

"A story has appeared on several websites that includes a fake e-mail and competition from the girls. The fake e-mail claims that due to the demand so far in the UK and the US this show is going to be cancelled.

"The e-mail goes onto say that they will be running some competitions for their South American fans to travel to the UK to watch a show.

"This is not the case and this email is 100% unofficial and has nothing to do with the Spice Girls."

The Spice Girls will kick off their world tour on 2 December in Vancouver, moving on to San Jose, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago and Boston; then across the Atlantic to play Manchester and 17 nights at the O2, in London.

At the end of January their tour takes them back to North America for gigs in Boston, Toronto and New York.

Colin Farrell's Charitable Donation | Colin Farrell
Helping a homeless Toronto man earlier this year felt so good to Colin Farrell, he's in a charitable mood again. This time, the actor's in Dublin helping bring attention to the 4th annual Abrakebabra For Childline Day, according to Splash News Online.

Childline is a hotline that kids can call for help sorting out their problems. The UK fast-food chain, Abrakebabra will donate every cent they earn on Sunday to the help line.

In 2003, Farrell helped the aforementioned street-dweller, Stress, win $2,000 in a contest to bring him to a Toronto radio station. Hearing about it on the radio, he grabbed the first homeless person he saw and headed to the studio for the man to win the money.

Earlier this year, he was back in Toronto for their film festival, (promoting Cassandra's Dreams) and ran into Stress again. This time, Farrell took him on a shopping spree, gave him $1,000 (with which he bought food for others in his situation), and offered him rent money, but the man declined, according to local reports.

Miley Cyrus Turns 15 with Sold-Out Birthday Show
What better way to throw a birthday party than by inviting more than 15,000 hometown friends? Miley Cyrus, the star of the hit Disney TV show Hannah Montana, celebrated turning 15 in Nashville Friday in front of a sold-out crowd.

"I'll tell you guys that my main wish when my parents asked me, 'Miley, what do you want for your 15th birthday?' The only thing that I had to say was, 'I want to be here at home with Nashville and all of you guys,' " she breathlessly told the crowd, who erupted into screams.

"The reason that I do what I do is for all of you guys," she said. "Anyone from a small town can go out there and live their dream, and so to be here with you guys tonight on my birthday is amazing."

Cyrus's rapt audience even serenaded her with "Happy Birthday" toward the end of her "Best of Both Worlds" concert, complete with pyrotechnic displays and a cake delivered onstage.

As her show wound to a close, confetti filled the stadium and she took her bows alongside Joe, Kevin and Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers. Fans refused to budge from their seats and their patience was rewarded.

She emerged to sing one more song, announcing: "I'd like to bring out my best friend – that just about says it all – my daddy." Her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, came out with an acoustic guitar to sing their signature duet, "Ready, Set, Don't Go," and included her sister Brandi Glenn Cyrus on backup guitar.

When the song ended, Billy Ray hugged Miley, wishing her, "Happy Birthday, little girl."

Jennifer Garner — the icon next door

Written by grasya on 11:29 PM

Image: Jennifer Garner

Equally comfortable in designer gowns or jeans, Jennifer Garner tries not to sweat the small stuff in the minefield of Hollywood.

By Laurie Sandell
updated 4:28 p.m. ET Nov. 19, 2007

OK, I’m just going to put it out there: On paper, Jennifer Garner is one of those annoyingly perfect people. She’s had success on the small screen (as Sydney Bristow in ABC’s cult spy series, “Alias”) and the big screen (in 2004’s “13 Going on 30” and this year’s “The Kingdom”, to name a few). She’s got the cute guy and the cute kid — and fans pretty much everywhere she goes. “It’s hard not to fall just a little bit in love with Jennifer; she has a warmth she’s unable to hide,” says Victor Garber, her former costar on “Alias” and the man who officiated at her 2005 wedding to Ben Affleck. Susannah Grant, who directed her in the 2007 film “Catch & Release,” says she’s “goofy as all hell.”

Then I meet her at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in New York City and discover that the 35-year-old star is perfect, as in perfectly normal (she’s wearing jeans and a messy ponytail) and perfectly human (she admits to major guilt about spending time away from her two-year-old daughter, Violet). She’s also perfectly charming as she talks about her new comedy, “Juno”; the reason she and Ben don’t walk the red carpet together; and the charity work she does for the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) and the American Lung Association (ALA) to encourage flu vaccination. Read on and you’ll fall just a little bit in love with her too.

Glamour: Your press is impeccable. Your fans adore you. Do you have a dark side, or are you a goody-goody?

Jennifer Garner: You totally called me out. I am a bit of a goody-goody. Not that there aren’t times when I think, I was kind of an (ass) today. I work in a world in which people are really catered to; someone will come up to me and say, “Is it OK if this person’s makeup is done before yours for the premiere?” Right now Ben’s in Africa studying malaria and visiting slums with a lack of potable water and maternity wards where many women have HIV. So would I really put my energy into worrying that I’m second to get my makeup done? When you think about the bigger picture, it’s hard to not have some perspective.

Glamour: You went to New Orleans on behalf of the CDF to survey the remaining damage done by Katrina. Now you’re on TV this fall for the ALA, raising awareness about flu vaccinations. How do you choose a cause to support?

JG: They’re all worthy, but you have to follow your heart. In New Orleans, I saw kids growing up in FEMA trailers with nine other people, and mothers who couldn’t get medicine for their children because their insurance didn’t cross state lines. One girl I met went home sick, throwing up, whenever it rained because she was afraid there was going to be another big storm.

Glamour: Does seeing that kind of thing just leave you feeling overwhelmed and depressed?

JG: I would have felt really helpless had I not been there with (Children’s Defense Fund founder and president) Marian (Wright Edelman). She’s had such success in introducing legislation to change the way children are treated in this country, and she taught me the importance of continuing to speak out. For three years I’ve been a presenter at the CDF’s Beat the Odds Awards, which honors kids who are succeeding despite huge obstacles. The idea is to make them visible so other kids will say, “I can do that too.” When I look at Marian, I think, “You will show me a way to help.” Otherwise, what good does it do to see all that tragedy?

Glamour: Who are some other women you admire?

JG: My younger sister is my hero: She’s a mom and an accountant for the state of West Virginia. She’s able to juggle a job, kids, volunteer work and church, and she still manages to cook dinner every night without feeling bogged down. There are lots of people out there who are literally heroic, but what she does counts too.

Glamour: Have you managed to find that balance for yourself?

JG: I’m trying to, but it’s hard: I just had a year off where I put every spoonful of food into (Violet’s) mouth. Now I’m working and though I’m usually with her more hours than not, some days I just can’t be. That’s hard for me, and for the first time, my daughter. Luckily my husband is a true partner, and he picks up where I leave off.

Glamour: Is being in Hollywood hard on a relationship?

JG: We’ve worked really hard not to be one of those couples who are constantly in the limelight. In the past we’ve both been the kind of people who go along with things — if you’re supposed to be photographed together, you don’t question it. But how does that help your relationship? So now we refuse to walk the red carpet together: It’s a way of not condoning the attention. Plus, it just feels silly to be in that situation with him: Ben was nominated for a Golden Globe (for 2006’s “Hollywoodland”). I remember being photographed next to him and thinking, “This is ridiculous. You’re not some actor; you’re my husband. ”

Glamour: J.J. Abrams (creator of “Alias”) said you were “raised right.” Why do you think younger women in Hollywood, like Britney Spears, are having such a hard time figuring out how to behave?

JG: My heart just goes out to those girls, especially Britney. After her performance at the VMAs (MTV’s Video Music Awards, where Garner was a presenter), I wanted to go backstage and mother her. The way everyone was celebrating (her shaky performance) was so unfair. If I’d experienced that level of scrutiny at her age — even with my background — I don’t know if today you’d be saying I was “raised right.”

Glamour: Do you ever worry that Violet is growing up in the spotlight?

JG: It’s not my favorite thing, but it’s a fact of life. It’s important to us that she remain a kid. If she wants to do theater someday, OK. But as far as making a living from it-, that’s not a kid’s job. We won’t allow it.

Glamour: You’re starring in “Juno,” a comedy about a pregnant teen who gives her baby up for adoption — you’re the adoptive mom. It got huge buzz at this year’s Toronto Film Festival.

JG: I’ve only seen “Juno” twice, but I cried my head off both times, in the best, most joyful way. I loved it. The character I play is an overachiever who’s always wanted things to fit into her life the way they’re supposed to fit, so when she isn’t able to get pregnant, she feels a sense of failure.

Glamour: So do you see yourself having another child?

JG: I always wanted to have several. And Violet needs a sibling. But I’m not pregnant, and we’re not trying yet. (Laughs.)

Glamour: Do you ever wear your “Alias” getups for Ben?

JG: (Laughs) I don’t have those costumes anymore. But Ben wouldn’t notice; he is the best and worst in that way. We’ll be going out to some event, and I’ll have my hair and makeup done and I’ll literally have to say, “Hey, look at me!” But it works in my favor, too, since most of the time I’m a schlep!

Glamour: You had an insane body on “Alias” — has it changed post-baby?

JG: Well, sometimes this (grabs a roll on her stomach) can make me a bit crazy. I don’t understand how women can manage to get back in shape with a new baby and a job. I couldn’t even touch exercise until I finished working on “Alias.” And trying to work out when you have a second and third child … How is that supposed to happen?

Glamour: And the paparazzi don’t give you a break to get back in shape ...

JG: It was painful and embarrassing (to see myself in photos), but I wasn’t going to spend time working out that I could have spent with Violet. I was like, ‘Screw it — what am I going to do?’

Glamour: You’ve landed on plenty of “Beautiful People” lists, but you’ve also referred to yourself as a “huge dork.” How is that possible?

JG: Trust me, I can be awkward. I tend to make big gestures. Ben and I went to a Red Sox game, and when the mascot came up to us, I hugged it. The pictures showed up everywhere. Ben and I were both like, “Ooh, too big of a gesture.” Why did I have to hug the sock? Just say hello like a normal person.

Glamour: Lastly, what’s your vision of a modern, successful, kick-ass woman?

JG: Someone who unapologetically defines herself, whether to say, “I love my career; that’s going to be my focus” or “I want to be home.” To be willing to grab on to that; to know what you want and do it.

Nicole Richie Donates Her Baby Shower Gifts to Charity

Written by grasya on 6:52 AM

Nicole Richie is using her Wizard of Oz-themed baby shower to benefit charity.

The Simple Life star and boyfriend Joel Madden, who are due to have their first child in January, will donate baby gifts to 100 expectant families in need through the newly-formed Richie Madden Foundation through the Los Angeles Free Clinic.

"It's really sweet," says shower guest Rashida Jones, of NBC's The Office. "With all the swag these days, we're given so much stuff it's almost wasteful, and it's kind of nice when we're giving to each other to give to someone else."

While many friends at Sunday's shower in Beverly Hills donated gifts to the charity, they also brought gifts for Nicole and Joel to keep – including one children's book from every guest to help build the baby's library.
