Lohan in Rehab in Utah

Written by grasya on 3:23 AM

Will the third time in rehab be the charm for Lindsay Lohan?

The Insider Online is reporting that Lohan entered the Cirque Lodge in Sundance, Utah. It's a drug and alcohol rehab center, and according to its Web site the facility was recently named by Town and Country magazine as one of the top substance abuse treatment facilities in the country.

The Insider reports that, according to unnamed sources, the 21-year-old star arrived this weekend to begin a rehabilitation program that is expected to last a minimum of 30 days.

The center treats men and women older than the age of 18. For a price tag of $30,000 and up, the rehab offers privacy with rooms for only 16 residents at a time.

Lohan currently faces multiple charges stemming from alleged substance abuse: two misdemeanor charges of suspicion of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license, and two felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and bringing contraband into a custody facility.

Earlier this month, the star checked herself into the Beverly Hills Police Station to be officially booked for her alleged traffic violation in May.

The "Georgia Rule" star completed a 45-day stay at the Promises rehab center in Malibu more than a week ago, but she was arrested again July 24 for alleged drunken driving and cocaine possession.

`Stardust' fun fairy tale for grown-ups

Written by grasya on 3:03 AM

By CHRISTY LEMIRE, AP Movie Critic

"Stardust," a fairy tale for grown-ups, follows the adventures of a star that falls from the sky in the form of an ethereal blond named Yvaine, whose magical abilities make her the target of various people with nefarious plans.

But it's the return of a star you already know and haven't seen much of in recent years that will leave you feeling dazzled.

Michelle Pfeiffer is deliciously evil as a witch who wants to cut out Yvaine's heart and eat it to gain eternal youth and beauty for herself and her sisters. (Well, mainly for herself.) She shows great comic timing and isn't afraid to play with her glamorous image, or look grotesque when her character, Lamia, is at her most decayed and desperate.

Rather, she seems to be reveling in such an unexpected turn, and the film's wildly vivid makeup and special effects bring her even more to life as Lamia morphs from wretched to ravishing and back again.

Based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, "Stardust" definitely has more than enough imagination and whimsy to keep you engaged. There's a long, stone wall that separates the English village of — well, it's called Wall — from the fantastic alternate universe of Stormhold. Goats get turned into people and people get turned into goats with the whip of a fingertip. Ghosts of murdered princes hang around and comment drolly on the action. And high up in the sky, a flying pirate ship collects lightning for sale on the black market.

This isn't self-serious, sword-and-sorcery stuff, though. While the tone in director Matthew Vaughn's film is firmly tongue in cheek in a way that's reminiscent of the classic "The Princess Bride" — and a vast departure from his debut, the slick neo-noir "Layer Cake" — the many overlapping plots and gags can get a little silly. Maybe that's the point, the increasingly madcap nature as a multitude of story lines ultimately collide, but the result feels a bit gratuitous. (Vaughn co-wrote the script with Jane Goldman.)

"Stardust" also calls to mind last year's "Pan's Labyrinth" — not that it's even close to the masterpiece Guillermo del Toro created — but merely in that it superficially appears to be suitable for the whole family, and it's really not. It's never as terrifying as "Pan's Labyrinth" but it does get dark; in a broader sense, though, kids just might not get a lot of the nuance. Their parents are truly the target audience here.

Also chasing Yvaine (a radiant Claire Danes) are several princes who seek her powers to ascend to the throne as king of Stormhold, as well as the lovestruck shop boy Tristan (Charlie Cox), who finds her first and wants to bring her home to tiny Wall in the countryside to impress a snooty girl (Sienna Miller) he thinks is out of his league.

Danes, with long, straight platinum hair that accentuates her wide eyes and chiseled cheekbones, eerily resembles Gwyneth Paltrow. She and Cox have decent chemistry — they enjoy your typical romantic banter, in which they initially bicker and get on each others' nerves, but it's only a matter of time before they fall madly in love and look forward to their happily ever after. As Tristan, the boyishly handsome Cox makes a smooth transition from insecure kid to swashbuckling hero.

The stellar cast, if you'll pardon the pun, also includes Peter O'Toole giving a rich performance in a brief deathbed appearance as the king of Stormhold, whose many sons (including Rupert Everett and Mark Strong) can't wait for him to die so they can bump each other off and take his place. Fellow veteran actor Ian McKellen serves as the film's narrator. And Ricky Gervais goes woefully underused in just a couple of scenes as an underground trader.

Then, as Captain Shakespeare, there's Robert De Niro, continuing his streak of comic roles that upend his tough-guy persona. In public, Shakespeare rules the skies in his pirate ship with his gruff, demanding voice and his cutthroat attitude. But privately, in his quarters ... well, he's a different guy. We won't divulge the twist — we'll just say it's an amusing idea that almost literally goes overboard.

"Stardust," a Paramount Pictures release, is rated PG-13 for fantasy violence and some risque humor. Running time: 125 minutes. Three stars out of four.

Beckham Benched Again?

Written by grasya on 4:13 AM

Soccer star and media favorite DAVID BECKHAM announced in a press conference Saturday at the Air Canada Centre that he will probably not play on Sunday when his team the L.A. Galaxy takes on Toronto FC, according to Associated Press.

"I'm here for five years and maybe more," he said. "That's where people may have to be slightly patient and not think that I'm just here for the glitz and the glamour. I'm here to play soccer. I'm not here to play anything else."

Beckham said he's still seven to 10 days away from starting a game because of a left ankle injury and probably won't come off the bench on Sunday.

"It needs to be right," he said. "There's no point in me coming back and playing in a game -- when people are expecting me to play at a high level like I can and I do -- and not performing."

Beckham has only played 16 minutes so far for Galaxy. He signed a five-year, $32.5 million contract in January.

Pre-Bust Lindsay: I'm Too Responsible to Drive Drunk

Written by grasya on 4:11 AM

When Lindsay Lohan said she needed balance in her life, she probably wasn't talking about bookend DUI charges.

In an interview with Elle that took place about 36 hours before she was arrested for driving under the influence for the second time in two months, Lohan said that she would never drive drunk.

"I wouldn't violate...I'm much more responsible than that," the beleaguered actress says in the magazine's September issue. "I would not do that."

When the above chat took place, Lohan was only looking at misdemeanor DUI and hit-and-run charges stemming from her single-car smashup on May 26 that preceded her decision to check into the Promises treatment center in Malibu.

A day and a half later, on July 24, Lohan found herself on the wrong side of the law again when she was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and felony possession of cocaine after she allegedly engaged her ex-assistant's mom in an impromptu car chase in Santa Monica.

The 21-year-old child star turned tabloid fixture told Elle last month that the paparazzi who seemingly accompany her everywhere are just waiting for her to make a wrong move.

"It's scary," she said. "They're looking for me to, like, trip, so they can be like, 'Oh, Lindsay's wasted and driving drunk.' "

True enough, the shutterbugs have been on hand to capture more than enough of the Mean Girls star's less than fine moments to keep the tabs in business—Lohan also addressed the panty-less pics of her that circulated on the Internet earlier this year, pre-commando Britney, taken as she was climbing out of a boat in Europe.

"It was once, and it was when I was in Venice," Lohan explained. "And I was rushing through the room, threw the Prada dress on. And that's what happened. And I didn't even see the picture. I don't look at that s--t, that's gross. If I wear a dress I have underwear on."

It was this sort of constant scrutiny that Lohan says made check into the Wonderland Center the first time back in January, she said, which she later referred to as a safe haven rather than as a medical necessity.

"I was growing up and going out a lot, and I needed to have a balance," she said. "I was glad I went, because I needed to get away from everyone and I didn't know how to do that. And I learned a lot there. A bunch of my friends—I was with them last night—they're in AA for, like, years."

Prior to her stay at Wonderland, Lohan's mom, Dina, told E! News' Ryan Seacrest that her daughter had been attending Alcoholics Anonymous for about a year. The younger Lohan later denied being any type of addict, however.

Coming full circle, Lohan's interview took place over lunch at the Ivy, which, along with the starlet, is the target of a negligence lawsuit brought by a man who Lohan got into a car accident with in October 2005 after dining at the West Hollywood hot spot.

Plaintiff Raymundo Ortega is claiming that Lohan was drunk when her Mercedes smashed into his van, and that the Ivy was where she got the booze.

Lohan's attorney, Alfred W. Gerisch, moved two weeks ago to have the suit dismissed, calling it "nothing more than an attempt to extort money from a celebrity by setting forth false and scurrilous allegations in a complaint."

He cited the police's accident report, which states that alcohol was not a factor in the crash and that Ortega was at fault because he made an illegal U-turn. Lohan, heading north on Robertson Boulevard, smacked into Ortega, who in turn hit a parked van.

Gerisch has also filed motions seeking to strike the DUI accusation in the complaint, calling it untrue and unsupported by the official accident report, and to have the judge currently presiding over the case step down, because his client, in light of her recent troubles, won't be able to get a fair hearing.

Ortega's lawyer fired back Thursday, stating in court documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court that the police report is hearsay, because its author never saw how fast Lohan was driving and didn't know whether she was drinking beforehand.

Attorney Robert Klein maintained in his filing that "there is some evidence she was served alcohol shortly before the accident" and that he has witnesses who will say they saw Lohan driving at least 62 miles per hour.

"The fact that Ms. Lohan was admitted to rehab for alcohol abuse shortly after this accident raises a presumption that at the time of this accident she was under the influence," read the court documents.

Ortega, an L.A.-based busboy who earns about $300 a week, is "an honest, hardworking, decent man with a wife and children to support," Klein states. "Instead of seeing if Mr. Ortega needed medical assistance, Lindsay Lohan fled the scene and took refuge in a retail store."

Lohan's publicist said at the time that her client was going about 30 mph while attempting to flee the ever-present paparazzi, although police determined that, like alcohol, persistent flashbulbs didn't cause the crash, either

The lawsuit, however, takes into account Lohan's frequent run-ins with the media, stating that she has become so "hypersensitive to paparazzi" that she "engaged in a habit, custom and practice of reckless driving" and was looking over her shoulder when she rammed into Ortega's vehicle.

Ortega is seeking at least $200,000 in damages. A hearing is scheduled for Sept. 14.

Rumor has it that NICOLE RICHIE may turn herself over to authorities and begin her four-day sentence as soon as this weekend.

Sources close to Nicole tell ET that she could be making the move within the next 48 hours.

Nicole Richie is pregnant and facing jail time.

The move comes just days after she finished a brand-new TV interview, confirming her pregnancy.

"I'm almost four months," she tells DIANE SAWYER in the "Good Morning America" interview that began airing today (the rest will air on "GMA" Friday as well as on "20/20" Friday night).

The reality TV star and Hollywood party girl is joined in the interview by her rocker boyfriend, JOEL MADDEN, and Nicole says their parents were "overjoyed" when they called to break the exciting news.

As for whether it's a boy or a girl, Nicole says, "We don't know ... we're going to try and hold out."

Nicole also opens up about the day she was arrested for DUI. "I had smoked marijuana," she reveals. "I had Vicodin in my system from that day, which I take for pain." But she clarifies that she doesn't take anything anymore and is ready to serve her time.

"I have a responsibility and it's something that I did wrong, and if I could personally apologize to
Nicole and her beau, Joel Madden, sit down with Diane Sawyer.
every single person that has lost a loved one from drunk driving, I would," she says. "And unfortunately I can't, but this is my way of paying my dues and taking responsibility and being an adult."
